Royer’s has a pretty elaborate process for developing new arrangements, typically involving a team of people.
But Patti Barclay, store manager for Royer’s in Columbia, Lancaster County, developed an arrangement on her own by experimenting with her customers’ preferences.
Her design features carnations, mini carnations, gerbera daisies, spray roses, alstromeria, limonium, hypericum berries, and greens (in hot pink, orange and lime-green) arranged in a large mason jar accented with hot pink polka dot and orange ribbons.
Seemingly as fast as Patti can make one of her arrangements, it’s purchased out of her store’s front cooler. Because of its popularity, Patti’s design soon will be available year-round in every Royer’s store and on royers.com.
“So we’re making it a part of our regular product line,” said Greg Royer, president and CEO of family-owned Royer’s.
But there’s only one problem: The arrangement needs a name.

Royer’s Kids Club birthday card design contest entries due by June 30
Light the candles. Royer’s annual birthday card design contest is back.
Children ages 5 to 12 may enter the contest at any time through June 30.
The winning design will adorn the Royer’s Kids Club birthday card, which will be emailed to all kids club members on their special days.
The winning artist will receive free flowers on his or her birthday.
Entry forms are available at all Royer’s stores or downloaded at royers.com/kidsclub. To be eligible, entries must be dropped off at a Royer’s store by June 30.
Lebanon’s Neuin wins our latest name-the-arrangement contest
Jennifer Neuin’s entry was one of 675 submitted in Royer’s latest name-the-arrangement contest.
But it ranked first overall when the judging was complete.
Neuin, of Lebanon, won the contest with her submission of “White Satin” as the moniker for our new European-style arrangement. It comes in a clear glass cube and features three types of greens and white flowers: one-dozen roses plus alstroemeria, hydrangea, veronica and stock.
Neuin will receive one of the arrangements after it debuts on Dec. 5.
A similar contest during the summer generated more than 450 entries.

To name a new arrangement, Royer’s Flowers & Gifts is going back to a method that worked well this summer: turning to the public for help.

‘Homespun Holiday’ selected as winning entry in our name-the-Christmas-arrangement contest
It was like a Christmas present in need of a bow.
We had developed a new arrangement for this holiday season.
It would come in a red mason jar and include red carnations, white alstroemeria, hypericum, tips of Douglas fir and white pine, pinecones, and shiny red stick-ins.
The only ingredient missing was a name.
But that has been taken care of, too, thanks to more than 450 entries in our online name-the-arrangement contest.
The winning entry: Homespun Holiday
Three people submitted the winning name, and as their prize they will receive one of the arrangements in early December when it becomes available to the public. The winners are Lori Heisey of Columbia; Katharine Hoch of Hummelstown; and Diana Myers of York.
“We received many thoughtful suggestions, but as soon as we saw ‘Homespun Holiday’ we knew it was the one,” said Greg Royer, president and CEO of Royer’s. “Thanks to our winners and to everyone else who submitted names. We can’t wait to introduce the Homespun Holiday arrangement.”
Sixth-grader Kaitlynn Balmer-Brown wins Royer’s Kids Club birthday card design contest
Kaitlynn Balmer-Brown has been dancing since age 3, studying jazz, tap and ballet. She also expresses herself through art, drawing graffiti-like designs on paper.
“She was good in art class,” said her stepmother, Emily Brown.
And she was plenty good enough to win the Royer’s Kids Club birthday card design contest.
The Lower Paxton Township sixth-grader’s drawing of a flower and balloons graces the electronic card that Royer’s Kids Club members will receive on their birthdays in the coming year. For Kaitlynn’s effort, she will receive a flower delivery on her next birthday.
The Royer’s Kids Club is free to ages 5 to 12. With parental permission, children may register for the kids club at any Royer’s store or online at www.royers.com/kidsclub.

Ephrata’s Julia Longenecker wins Royer’s Kids Club birthday card design contest
Ephrata Middle School seventh-grader Julia Longenecker is a swimmer and a basketball player. She loves dogs and reading.
The daughter of John and Sandy Longenecker is pretty fond of drawing, too.
“She draws a little bit of everything,” Sandy said. “She likes to draw pictures of animals, flowers.”
In fact, one of Julia’s flower drawings has earned her another descriptor: winner of Royer’s Flowers & Gifts’ 2014 Royer’s Kids Club birthday card design contest.
Her drawing of a flower-filled vase will grace the electronic card that Royer’s Kids Club members will receive on their birthdays in the coming year. For her effort, she will receive a flower delivery on her birthday.
