‘Holiday Mail for Heroes’ collects hundreds of cards, coloring pages for active military and veterans in 22 counties in central Pennsylvania

Holiday Mail for Heroes 2016
Thanks to everyone who contributed cards and coloring pages for active military and veterans as part of the American Red Cross’ “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program.
From Nov. 11-25, we invited the public to drop off the cards and coloring pages at any Royer’s store. The donated items are destined for military installations, VFWs, American Legions, the Lebanon VA and retirement homes in 22 counties in central Pennsylvania.
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Last year in central Pennsylvania, the Red Cross assisted close to 4,000 people affected by more than 400 local disasters.

Jennifer Neuin’s entry was one of 675 submitted in Royer’s latest name-the-arrangement contest.
But it ranked first overall when the judging was complete.
Neuin, of Lebanon, won the contest with her submission of “White Satin” as the moniker for our new European-style arrangement. It comes in a clear glass cube and features three types of greens and white flowers: one-dozen roses plus alstroemeria, hydrangea, veronica and stock.
Neuin will receive one of the arrangements after it debuts on Dec. 5.
A similar contest during the summer generated more than 450 entries.

  • Use generic salutations such as “Dear Service Member” as cards addressed to specific individuals cannot be delivered through this program.
  • Include messages of support and thanks.
  • Sign your name to them.
  • Don’t include letters or other personal information (photos, addresses).
  • Refrain from choosing cards with glitter.

Royer’s will salute military veterans with free red, white and blue bouquets on Nov. 11.
Any veteran who stops by one of our 16 area stores on Veterans Day will receive a bouquet.
“The men and women who have served in our military protected our freedoms every day, often in far-off places and always at great personal sacrifice,” said Greg Royer, president and CEO of the family-owned florist.
“This is our small way of recognizing and honoring their selfless service to our country.”

The event runs Oct. 31-Nov. 7 in all of our stores.

Barnes & Noble will play host to a series of book fairs to benefit the library systems in Cumberland (Oct. 31-Nov. 2), Dauphin (Nov. 3-5) and York (Nov. 6-8) counties.
Customers will have an opportunity to designate their sales on those dates to the library systems, which will receive at least 10 percent of the sales during their book fairs.
What’s more, customers will be able to purchase books and donate them directly to Bouquets for Books. These donors will receive vouchers redeemable at any Royer’s (with proof of purchase) for a free bouquet.
Also in conjunction with the book fairs, Barnes & Noble and the library systems will hold free story times:

  • Cumberland County, every 30 minutes from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2, with cookies and a craft;
  • Dauphin County, 11 a.m. Nov. 5, with cookies and coloring;
  • York County, 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 6, with cookies and coloring.

finalcroppedWhite Select 6x6
Spring forward, fall back.
To name a new arrangement, Royer’s Flowers & Gifts is going back to a method that worked well this summer: turning to the public for help.
Royer’s has developed a new European-style arrangement that will be offered year-round. It comes in a clear glass cube and features three types of greens and white flowers: one-dozen roses plus alstroemeria, hydrangea, veronica and stock.
To view the arrangement and enter the contest, visit royers.com/contest.
The deadline to enter is Oct. 20; limit one entry daily per email address.
The winner will receive one of the arrangements as his or her prize.

Kids club event Oct. 31 helps kick off book drive for public libraries

It’s boos and bouquets Oct. 31 when we kick off our annual children’s book drive with a kids club event.
croppedKid's Club 10-31
Children ages 5 to 12 are asked to bring a new children’s book as the price of admission. Participants will get to make a fall arrangement (photo) and will receive a balloon.
Because the event coincides with Halloween, participants are encouraged to wear their trick-or-treat costumes.
Time slots are available at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Registration is required by calling your nearest Royer’s store.
Royer’s “Bouquets for Books” book drive benefits area public libraries. Marking its 10th year in 2015, the event has collected nearly 14,000 books for the libraries.

We’ve updated our ‘Power of Pink’ arrangement to continue breast cancer awareness efforts

Royer’s fall catalog will arrive in mailboxes just as October ushers in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
croppedPower of Pink (2015)
The catalog includes a new version of our “Power of Pink” arrangement, which is offered year-round to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
The new arrangement features hydrangea and roses in a swirled glass vase and measures 12 inches high and 11 inches wide. It is priced at $56.99 and can be ordered online, over the phone or in-store.
With each arrangement sold, we earmark $10 for breast cancer organizations. In 2015, that meant $4,000 shared equally by two nonprofits, the Lebanon-based Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Middletown-based Feel Your Boobies Foundation.
In the United States, approximately 40,290 women are expected to die from breast cancer in 2015, according to breastcancer.org. However, death rates have been decreasing since 1989 as a result of treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness.
