Administrative professionals loyal, social media savvy: survey

When bosses want to tweet, they only need to turn to their administrative assistants for help.
Some 84.3 percent of administrative professionals are social media savvy and are generally more tech-savvy than their bosses, according to Staples’ fourth annual survey tied to Administrative Professionals Day on April 22.
Among other survey highlights:

  • Admins also rated higher than bosses when it comes to creative problem solving, sense of humor, being a team player, and likelihood of being described as a friend.
  • Nearly 46 percent of admins have been with their companies for six or more years.
  • When admins were asked who they would most enjoy as their boss, historical figures topped the list in the United States. Movie stars were preferred by their Canadian counterparts.

Meanwhile, nearly eight out of 10 survey participants said their company does a good job of making administrative assistants feel appreciated. April 22 provides another opportunity.
 
 

Leola deliveries uninterrupted by store closing

It was a difficult decision, but we closed our Leola store on Feb. 15 as a result of declining foot traffic at The Meadowbrook shopping center.
Leola remains an important market for Royer’s. Deliveries to Leola are now being handled out of our Ephrata and Lancaster North stores. Leola’s phone number, 717-656-2911, remains active and rings to Ephrata.
Greg Royer, president and CEO, noted that Leola’s five employees transferred to other Royer’s stores. Store manager Tonya Leonard has assumed the same role in Shillington, Berks County; assistant manager Christina Sweigart is now a designer at Lancaster North.
“We’re working diligently to ensure that our Leola customers continue to receive the high-quality service to which they were accustomed,” Royer said. “We value them and hope they will continue to entrust us with serving all of their floral needs.”

Put our free March 14 kids club event in your Easter basket

Easter fun is just a hop, skip and jump away for Royer’s Kids Club participants.

On March 14, children ages 5 to 12 will have an opportunity to create a carnation bunny, complete with greens, an egg-and-ribbon stick-in, and pipe cleaners (for ears).
Participants also will receive a balloon.
Time slots are available at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. at all of our 16 stores in Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties.
Admission is free but registration is required by calling your nearest store.

Royer’s Kids Club announces 2015 event schedule

Another new year of fun, free Royer’s Kids Club events is upon us.
The kids club is open to children ages 5 to 12, with the events held in each of our stores, usually at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

  • Jan. 17: There are many more weeks of winter to come, but we’re turning our attention to spring.
  • March 14: Our Easter event is just a hop, skip and jump away.
  • June 20: Help us kick off our annual food drive, “Royer’s Stems Hunger,” and enter our kids club birthday card design contest.
  • Aug. 22: Summer vacation is coming to an end, so we’re going to help ease you back to school.
  • Oct. 31: It’s Halloween, so be sure to wear your costume as we celebrate the holiday and kick off our annual “Bouquets for Books” children’s book drive to benefit area public libraries.

Kids club registration is free and may be completed by clicking here or by visiting any of our stores. Membership benefits include a membership card, website activities, an e-mail newsletter, giveaways, contests, and, of course, our events.

On Jan. 17, children ages 5 to 12 will have an opportunity to make a vase arrangement featuring carnations and daisies, similar to the ones above. Participants in this fun, free event also will receive a balloon to bring home along with their floral creations.
Time slots are available at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. at each of our stores in Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties.

Thanks for making our book drive another big success for public libraries

In the spirit of the season, we’re so thankful to everyone who helped to make this year’s “Bouquets for Books” book drive a big success for our public libraries.
We collected 1,452 new children’s books during the event, which ran Nov. 1-8. Here’s the breakdown by library system and the number of books donated in the respective counties:
• Berks County Public Libraries: 241
• Cumberland County Library System: 158
• Dauphin County Library System: 130
• Hershey Public Library (independent): 125
• Lebanon County Libraries: 182
• Library System of Lancaster County: 309
• York County Library System: 307
In its nine years, Bouquets for Books has collected nearly 14,000 books for the libraries.

Our new Power of Pink bouquet benefits breast cancer research

Among the arrangements debuting with our 2014 fall catalog is the Power of Pink bouquet.

It packs plenty of pink: a 9-inch pink vase holds an all around arrangement in shades of pink, featuring a lily, gerbera, three roses, alstroemeria, carnations, mini-carnations, caspia and a sheer bow.
As for power, that derives from the good we hope it does in the fight against breast cancer.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Approximately 40,000 women in the United States are expected to die from breast cancer in 2014, according to breastcancer.org.
The much better news is that death rates have declined for decades, there are millions of breast cancer survivors, and the fight for a cure continues.
This is why for every Power of Pink arrangement sold, we are donating $10 to breast cancer research. We are committed to this cause, so we’re offering this arrangement year-round.
Meanwhile, if you are a woman between the ages of 50 and 74, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you have a screening mammogram every two years.

Thanks to everyone who joined us on Aug. 23 for our back-to-school Royer’s Kids Club event. The photos above show some of the participants at our West York store.
Not only is it hard to believe that school has resumed, but it’s also incredible to think that we have only one more kids club event in 2014.
It’s on Nov. 1, and we’ll be kicking off our annual “Bouquets for Books” book drive, which collects new children’s books for area public libraries. We’ll also be celebrating Halloween, even if it’s a day late, so participants (ages 5 to 12) will be encouraged to wear their costumes.
Be sure to mark your calendars. We’ll provide more details in the weeks ahead.
